The First African Party at Rikkyo University!

OBJECTIVE.

The Graduate School of Social Design Studies hosted the first African cultural exchange event on September 15, initiated by Professor Yukiko Kuramoto. Students from Burundi, Gambia, Namibia, Mozambique, Uganda, and Ghana gave presentations on their countries' history, culture, society, food and more. The presentations utilized many images to convey the charm of each country and provide a glimpse into the positive attitudes and vibrant lifestyles of the people. Following the engaging talks, Mariko Tsutsumi, a GLAP senior student who was dispatched to Ghana as a UN youth volunteer in October, gave a speech to express her enthusiasm for her assignment.
At the end of the African Party, Midori Wakui, a Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate School of Social Design Studies, played the violin. She performed Csárdás and Amazing Grace wishing the audience “Good Luck.” About 30 people enjoyed the African Party, and having the chance to experience Africa was a fruitful and valuable opportunity. The participants gained a lot of insight and understanding about different cultures, which broadened their perspective and enriched their lives.
